As we head into Calan’s second holiday season, here are some of the highlights from the last three and a half months since Calan turned one:)
August 12th – Getting up on knees in his crib to play with his mobile (yes, still quite the late bloomer in the walking department, as this is a big step forward and a first)
August 23rd – Started drinking from a cup with assistance. Working much better than a sippy cup!
– Trying really hard to stand up, but not yet.
– Climbed up the front stairs all the way, by himself, all at once, kind of fast.
August 29th – 6:15pm – Stood up by himself, holding onto Daddy’s shoulder – first time!
September 14th – Calan started “reading”!! – At lunch and dinner, he did the following actions when shown the flashcards: “Arms Up”, “Wave”, and “Clap”.
*September in general – started a massive onset of teething, getting about six molars at once, sleeping since September has been less consistent, but he kind of mellowed out again toward the end of October – we thought he might be dropping a nap, but really turned out to be teething – at his 15 month check up, he had jumped up to a total of 16 teeth!*
September 30th – Finally stood up on his own in his crib, during his morning nap, but got stuck, and upset – for a couple of days, we had to go in every now and then to help him get unstuck.
October 1st – Tried a one nap day, was ok, but only because I put him back down after an early morning nursing.
October – using sippy cup well now, and also started shaking his head “no” a lot, mostly at mealtime. Eating is getting more difficult again as he is becoming more independent. Discovered he loves scrambled eggs. Great with eating meat, eggs, pears, oranges, crispy treats, other things kind of tricky off and on.
October 8th – Went DOWN stairs backwards for first time all on his own – sliding on his belly/knees from top landing to bottom floor.
October 9th – saying “hi” to everyone (especially Cole the Cat).
– has really mastered stairs.
October 10th – happy 14 months!
October 11th – started using a fork!
October 12th – ish – started cruising, especially in crib and play yard.
October 13th – started squatting to pick things up – while holding on with one hand
October 20th – Discovered peanut allergy!! Not too serious though, whew . . . just hives, no respiratory problems.
October 29th – When Calan crawls out of nursery and gets ready to go downstairs, he turns around and closes his gate when asked.
– Stood by himself for a long time (2 minutes or so), twice, in the park, wearing his shoes, standing in the grass – we had to put him there, he didn’t get into position by himself, but he could stay without holding on.
October 30th – Halloween party!! Got down from couch by himself for first time.
November 1st – came down with bad cold – had it for almost three weeks before cough was completely gone:(
November 6th – Responded to flashcards (more than before). He read “Dada”, “Ball”, “Dog”, “Hi”, acted out “clap”, “arms up” and “no”.
November 10th – Happy 15 months!
November 18th – Stood UP by himself for the first time!! Elisha was here in the morning while Mommy went to a movie:) When she got back, Calan stood up just before naptime. Elisha and Mommy were soooo excited they clapped and clapped, so he did it over and over, and has been doing ever since, including clapping his tiny hands excitedly after he stands up. He also understands and can read “Stand Up” (doesn’t say it, but does action)
November 30th – START OF WALKING!!!! Several times this morning, Calan took just one step with his left leg. We’ll see where he goes from here . . .
Last couple of weeks in November:
–Scribbling on paper with crayons – mostly stays on the paper:)
–Has learned lots and lots of new flashcards. All of the words he says or responds to, he can also read.
–Favorite words to say and actually use: “Hi” “Dog” “Dada” “Book” “Baby”
–Can also say “Ball” “Mama” “knee” “cheese” “bye”
–When asked what a cow says, he answers “Moo”; for sheep he answers “Ba”
–Knows how to read and where to find his tongue, knee, ears, foot, hand, and head.
–Very good at “Clap” “Arms Up” “Stand Up” “Wave”
Thanks, Mama, for sharing as Calan continues to grow…means a lot to us to know his progress along with all the pictures & videos from Dada…
Congratulations, Calan!
Love, Grandmother
