Precious moments with Calan

Oh, how hard we try to get Calan to smile and babble. 🙂

So we’ve been wanting to post more video of Calan for a while now. Of course, it’s easy enough to throw up a cute 20-second clip here and there… but us creative types (i.e. those that can spend way too much time working on a right-brain project) can’t just post a little clip and be done. We want to add more. Do more.

Beyond the single-clip vid there is the more complex multi-clip version; piecing together shots of various moments, for example. Add some music and a few effects, and you’ve created something much more exciting than just a short, 20-second clip. 🙂

The catch is this can become time-consuming and you potentially end up not posting anything…including just the cute, short clip. Over time you’re just left with a bunch of raw clips sitting in dark, lonely folders on your hard drive.

That said, we’ll try to get better at putting up simple, short and sweet clips. But for now, as Calan gets ready to turn eight months old, we created a montage of Calan’s life just over the last month. The key is that we didn’t try to do it all at once, nor did we try to perfect anything. Just grabbed some nice moments caught on “tape” and layered over a song that’s been stuck in our heads the last few weeks. We’ve been singing it to Calan (and ourselves!) to get it out, but to no avail…

So, here we pass it on to anyone willing to watch, listen (get a song stuck in their head), and more importantly, get a small sense of the immense joy Calan gives us every day.

A visit to the pool

This morning Calan started swimming lessons for the first time. Ok, there’s no official swimming involved, but it’s Calan’s introduction to water in a fun, safe environment. Calan was clad in three layers of swimwear (disposal swim diaper, clothe swim diaper, and trunks), and didn’t appear to mind the water and accompanying activities at all. In fact, because the class took place during the middle of his long morning nap, Calan stayed pretty low-key for the whole expedition. We hope by starting the classes early on, Calan will become comfortable in the water from an early age. It’s also a good idea as a small, first step toward water safety since Calan is growing up around a swimming pool. Maybe next week we can try the diving boards. 😉

Also, a few of Calan’s baby teeth started coming in during the last couple weeks. The bottom front two broke through first, and now we’re seeing his top two front teeth.
