Calan’s Two-month Checkup

Calan had his two-month visit today with our pediatrician, Dr. Chambers. This appointment was more than just an exam like in our previous visits. In addition to his regular check-up routine, Calan received his first immunization shots (ouch!), and his parents filled out a couple forms to start tracking his development. But most importantly, we (as parents) experienced a few “proud” moments when Calan received some positive feedback from the doctor and his staff. [More…]

Change

Change is a funny thing. When we can’t have it, we want it. When it does finally come around, we get anxious and wish it would wait a while. Or, maybe it’s not change itself that’s so strange – after all, change is a constant oddly enough – but it’s our reaction to it that leaves us confused. Well, I’m anxious and confused. This is nothing new, of course, but the reasons for it have changed:)

Calan’s One-month Birthday

Calan turned one month old today. He couldn’t be more excited (especially in the first picture below!). We celebrated by visiting the doctor for his one-month checkup, where he passed with flying colors. He’s a little guy holding steadily in the 10th percentile for height and weight. He’d gained a full pound since his last checkup though two weeks ago. He’s now a whopping 8 lbs. 9 oz.

It’s hard to believe it’s been a month already since our lives completely changed. We can’t wait to see what the next month brings! (Thanks to his grandmother Kerri for supplying the monthly birthday stickers in the photos).

Odd Snapshots in the Life of a Sleep-Deprived Mom #1 – Harry Potter at Target??

Standing in the feeding aisle of the baby section at Target, staring at breast-pump accessories, hearing a strange, eerie, whistle-like – but-louder-like-a-horn sound that seems to be calling and coming from everywhere, but nowhere in particular. Is this in my head, or is this an actual sound found on earth, and not just in the on-screen fantasy world of J.K. Rowling?

Priorities

Hello everyone who is reading this (even if it’s just you, Mom:)! This is to be my little record of the random thoughts running through my head as I try to do something I’m quite convinced I can’t do – be a mom. Please be forewarned that my brain isn’t running on all cylinders, and while I promise to do my best to be articulate, I’m not sure I will actually succeed. But I know you all understand, especially those of you who have been down this road before.

Oregon grandparents visit Calan

Gran (a.k.a. “Gran-mama”, “Grandmother”) and Grandpa Yost drove down from Oregon and visited from August 22-27. The whole week was ALLLLLL about Calan of course, with a little bit of time available for cooking, cleaning, and shopping…much of that for Calan, no doubt!

Kidding aside, the grand-parentals really took the load off of us new parents for a few days. We got to catch up on some work, errands and chores around the house. We even had a series of home-cooked meals and got a little extra sleep while the grandparents watched over Calan. Food, sleep and family… is there anything else you need?
